How – Five Minute Friday

Happy Friday! Today’s Five Minute Friday writing prompt is HOW? For such a tiny three-letter word it surely holds immense power and immense possibility doesn’t it? How? How to begin?

If this is your first encounter with a Five Minute Friday post let me explain what’s happening here real fast. There is an amazing writing group that gathers together every Friday and each of us commits five minutes of our lives to respond to a prompt word.

We take it in and proceed to pour out our responses in a raw and honest way. We don’t stop at all for five full minutes, we simply let it flow. And you’re invited to join us. Check out the end of the post for more details.

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

John 13:34

OK, starting my timer now.

How do we heal a broken world?

One piece at a time,

Each life embraced as part of a beautiful puzzle.

Each precious piece aware we are incomplete without it,

And it incomplete without us.

Needing one another present and united to be whole.

And, maybe through one after another broken spirit uplifted,

And one beautiful moment after another captured and shared.

And one after another bit of love selflessly extended,

We could be whole.

And then we hold things together by stepping up.

One by one.

And filling in when needed,

and one by one leading the way for the next.

Maybe we could find our way to a more peaceful and complete existence.

Maybe it’s all about showing up?

How do we heal a broken family?

It all begins at home they say.

So how?

Maybe we teach and express unconditional love,

and practice forgiveness.

Maybe we lead by example,

and teach character development through our actions,

and exercise solid morality that exceeds expectations.

Even while allowing that there will be failures,

Which will be forgiven as lessons,

And no love needs to be lost between us.

And maybe we also remember to teach to the whole person – mind, body, and spirit.

And also don’t forget to enjoy the gifts of nature He has packed into this world He made us.

They heal.

And also embrace the mind as something that needs our attention and care too.

Just as our bodies.

And encourage everyone to recognize that they are a spirit inside a body.

A spirit that needs to connect to home.

Speak with it’s Father and hear His words.

And we must teach that we are not only just one person,

but also all parts of one whole.

A whole family.

A whole world.

A whole race of people looking for some love,

and needing it ourselves.

To give it and to get it.

How do we heal division?

Inclusion it seems is the only way.

Seeking out opportunities to include and also to be included.

Inviting others but also showing up ourselves and being part of the whole that needs healing and can only do it together.

How do we heal humanity?

Through faith, it seems to me.

The only way to heal it all is through Him that created us.

Praying, following His example and His lessons.

Walking in His footsteps the best we can.

Reaching out to heal and help and love.

Not to judge or condemn.

Loving our neighbors as we love ourselves.

We have written instructions on how.

So how do we realize that the time is now?

We turn on the news,

open the paper,

or even open the door

and the answer is obvious.

Now, we only have to open our hearts,

and let them lead us into action.

His words are written there,

On our hearts,

and He knows how.

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

– Ephesians 2:10

  1. Healing humanity is big, starting a conversation is small but could lead to something big if enough of us start having them. My daughter and I are seeking out opportunities to start those conversations. First, but preparing ourselves, finding good and reasonable guidelines so that all will feel safe, needed, and loved. We want to understand, learn, and grow.

  2. One think I still try to do, illness notwithstanding, is work on an aeroplane I’m building from raw materials (yes, a real one, not a model). People wonder how the complete structure can come from a shipping tube full of wood and steel, about ten inches in diameter and fifteen feet long.

The answer is, you do one thing at a time. Cut and bend and weld a steel bracket, then move on to the next. Before long you have enough parts to, say assemble a wing, and sometimes, yeah, you step back and say, Whoa. How did I do this?

Some call it madness. I call it…well, madness. But it’s fun.

    1. One thing at a time is really the only way, isn’t it? Very cool that you are building an airplane! I love the focus and reward of taking on big projects. Final thought, madness is often confused with genius. 🙂
