Refrain – Five Minute Friday

Refrain Writing Prompt

Five Minute Friday –  Refrain Writing Prompt

I haven’t done one of these in a while but with Summer Break straight ahead I decided I would try to get back into this type of journaling and I want to invite all of you to join me. A few minutes of writing can be so good for you. While you create – you release. It’s inevitable. And when you are done there tend to be parts of yourself restored. I am all about that. So here I go, setting my timer…

So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. – Psalm 90:12

Every Precious Moment

These are uncertain times. I’m learning to refrain from booking the next event, the next trip, the next class, the next thing.

Instead, I fill those moments with family, cooking, reading, stillness, prayer.

I refrain from so much chaos and discover so much peace.

I think of my pre-pandemic calendar with every block filled in with the tiniest script to make room for everything and everyone.

Now, I wonder how I found enough time in the day.

Now, there is time to relax,

instead of rushing frantically from one moment to the next,

to have coffee with my birds and my bible instead of on the road,

to listen to my music while I chop, prepare, and cook,

instead of reaching for my wallet at the drive-through window.

I refrain from going out instead I choose to reach out by reaching in.

I paint, I draw, I write, I create…

I pour out instead of venturing out.

I have discovered healing in refraining.

Not to say I don’t miss a lot of things, but I can definitely see much more clearly what mattered to me most.

Now that the distractions have fallen away.

Those things that deserve my time and attention when this is over will be drastically different.

Refraining has taught me to see reality in a whole new light.

Illuminating the ways I was sacrificing time and highlighting the value of every precious moment.

    1. Thanks for visiting, Mandy! I am with you I am really missing certain places a lot! It will be so nice to be able to move freely again. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you will come back and visit again soon!

  1. Coronavirus shaped the land
    in its old new way,
and now some folks will understand
    how I spend my days.
    Cancer’s got me homebound;
    can’t ride in a car,
but for all this I have found
    that I still travel far.
I lift mine eyes unto the hills,
    and imagine what’s beyond;
    gondoliers and Dutch windmills
    and a still bass-fishing pond?
This is desert, NOT that scene,
but what the heck, it’s nice to dream.

    1. Well done, Andrew! Wishing you grand success in beating cancer and finding yourself restored soon and also a future filled with gondoliers, Dutch windmills, and fishing opportunities to take home the big one! Thanks for sharing with us! Come back soon!

  2. Ha! I love having coffee with my birds (aka ‘pets’), too! Nice to meet a soulmate. I’ve enjoyed the quarantine (it’s actually an introvert’s bonanza ;)).

    1. So true, I’ve discovered I do indeed contain an inner introvert. Now, every time I go out I am ready to get right back home. I was never like that before. LOL So nice to meet you, Anita! Be well and enjoy that coffee!
